Focus Awards Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce (RQF)

This qualification is designed for practitioners who are working—or preparing to work—unsupervised with children and young people aged 0–19 years. Delivered by Training National Futures (TNF) via a supportive, flexible learning environment, the program combines theoretical knowledge portfolio tasks (case studies, reflective accounts) via an online Learning Management System (LMS) with direct workplace observations carried out by a qualified assessor.

Aims & Objectives

  • Professional Competency: Confirms that learners possess the necessary knowledge and practical competency to work unsupervised across early years, social care, or learning support environments.
  • Apprenticeship Compliance: Satisfies the core qualification component of the Level 3 Children and Young People's Apprenticeship.
  • Pathway Specialization: Allows learners to align their studies directly with their specific workplace environment through specialized pathways (Early Years, Social Care, or Learning Support).

Course Requirements

  • Workplace Placement: Learner must work or volunteer in a suitable care or education setting for practical observations.

    • 65 Credits Minimum: Learner must earn at least 65 total credits across three sections.

      • Core Units (27 Credits): Mandatory topics like safeguarding, child development, health and safety, and communication.

        • Specialist Pathway (Pick 1): Choose Early Years (25 credits), Social Care (13 credits), or Learning Support (13 credits).

          • Optional Units: Extra units chosen to bring total score up to at least 65 credits.

          Course Outcomes

Upon completing the qualification, learners will be able to:

          • Promote effective communication, equality, inclusion, and duty of care within health, social care, or children's settings.
          • Understand and promote child and young person development from ages 0 to 19.
          • Understand and implement effective safeguarding measures to support children's well-being.
          • Maintain health and safety protocols in care and learning environments.
          • Build positive relationships with children, young people, and care partners while working collaboratively for their benefit.
          • Support positive outcomes, educational achievement, or resilience depending on their chosen specialist pathway.

          Career Opputunity:

          • Education & Early Years: Day nurseries, preschools, reception classes, creches, registered childminding, primary and secondary schools, special educational needs (SEN) provision, and alternative learning units.
          • Care & Community Services: Residential care homes, respite units, family support centres, fostering services, youth clubs, community outreach initiatives, and local authority schemes.
